The funds allocated by the Foundation for research in the natural sciences are distributed mainly as grants, donations and stipends to spend time abroad. The Foundation focuses its funding in the natural sciences on large-scale projects of long-term, strategic significance.

The framework for the Foundation’s funding in the natural sciences is the Nordic countries and the Baltic Sea region. In order to achieve resource concentration, the Foundation currently focuses its natural science funding on western Sweden.
