Politics of Images: from Alfredo Jaar to Meiselas (CANCELLED)
The lecture is cancelled
The Hasselblad Center and the Gothenburg Art Museum is temporarily closed, from Saturday 14 November until further notice, due to the corona virus pandemic and the general guidelines for the region, decided by the Public Health Agency on Thursday 29 October.
Welcome to the lecture Politics of Images: From Jaar to Meiselas by Hasselblad Foundation researcher and curator Louise Wolthers. The lecture is a part of our current exhibition Hasselblad Award 40 Years – Celebrating Photography.
Artist Alfredo Jaar is this year’s Hasselblad Award winner. At the core of Jaar’s work is what he calls the politics of images. He questions how we use and consume images and points to the limits of photography and mass media in representing trauma and urgent matters of concern.
The lecture will discuss the politics of images as a concept in relation to Alfredo Jaar’s work and to selected works by other Hasselblad Award winners such as Wolfgang Tillmans, Joan Fontcuberta, Walid Raad, Susan Meiselas, Nan Goldin and Cindy Sherman.
The lecture will be held in English.
