Guided tour: Portraits and power
In a collaboration between the Hasselblad Center and the Gothenburg Museum of Art we arrange two special guided tours with a focus on the portrait, with examples from the Hasselblad Center’s exhibition 202 people in a room and the Gothenburg Museum of Art’s collection.
Throughout the ages, art has been used to display the powerful in a good light. A common ambition with these kinds of portraits was to distinguish them from the “ordinary people”. But we also take a closer look at the stories of the powerless, those whose voices are rarely given space. In this guided tour, we take a closer look at the portrait’s relationship to power. How have images like these been used to depict the powerful and the powerless? What power does the artist have over how someone is depicted?
Half of the guided tour takes place in the Hasselblad Center and half in Gothenburg’s art museum.
The guided tour will be held in Swedish. No pre-booking. The show is included in the entrance ticket.
