Ocean Lab – Sea of Knowledge
Sjöfartsmuseet Akvariet has recently undergone an extensive renovation and expansion, including the opening of a brand-new underground aquarium. Here, the world ocean takes center stage, with living environments ranging from the dark deep sea to tropical coral reefs. As part of this development, Ocean Lab has been created — a new educational and public research environment, made possible with support from the Hasselblad Foundation.
In this lunchtime talk, we offer an insight into the work behind Ocean Lab and how new spaces, methods, and interactive stations are used to explore and present life beneath the surface. Visitors are invited to step into the role of ocean researchers themselves by investigating marine habitats, working with microscopes, participating in experiments, and following ongoing research within the aquarium.
The presentation will also provide a deeper understanding of how the aquarium’s new environments and Ocean Lab together create a platform for learning, research, and increased ocean awareness — with a focus on the relationship between humans and the sea.
Date: Wednesday, 27 May, 12:15–12:45
Venue: Stadsbiblioteket, Trappscenen
Participants: Tove Rundberg, marine biologist, and Björn Källström, Head of Research, Maritime Museum & Aquarium
The presentation will be held in Swedish
