William Klein
The Hasselblad award was presented for the tenth time on Wednesday 3 October 1990. The award winner, William Klein, Paris, received the award from Her Royal Highness Princess Lilian, at a ceremony at Wernerska Villan in Göteborg. The award sum was FRF 215,000. In conjunction with the ceremony an exhibit of the award winner's work, William Klein - Photographs by this year's Hasselblad award winner, opened at the Hasselblad Center, Wernerska Villan, Göteborg.

The Foundation's citation:

William Klein belongs to the innovators of modern photography. His subjective descriptions of the city streets and the mundane world of fashion is characterized by a documentary coarseness and austere sense of form, a post war 'art brut'.
